D. T. TEBBS FATALLY INJURED BY RUNAWAY TEAM
Richfield. Utah. June 29 - D. T. Tebbs of Panguitch met with a horrible death near here this afternoon. He with a son, D. D. Tebbs, aged 14 years, were on their way to Mt. Pleasant, the father driving in a buggy and the boy following with a wagon load of furniture. About a mile north of Wallsville they stopped to get a drink, and when the boy got on his wagon one of his horses a colt, got one of the check lines over his head. The boy stepped onto the tongue to lift the line off, when it became unfastened from the harness and the team started to run. The boy jumped over one of the horses and tried to stop them but could not control them and they plunged into the rear end of the buggy. The boy thinks the end of the tongue struck his father in the back and knocked him out of the buggy. The wagon load of furniture passed across his right leg and abdomen, breaking the leg above the knee and grinding it into a pulp below the knee. He received internal injuries also. The boy started for help and in about three-quarters of an hour a team was secured and Mr. Tebbs brought to Richfield. where he died about half an hour later. He was conscious for about an hour after the accident and suffered terribly. He was 79 years of age an old resident of Panguitch, where the younger members of his family now live. He has several children residing in Mt. Pleasant. All have been notified of the accident. Mrs. Tebbs is at Mt. Pleasant. Salt Lake Herald June 30, 1900
