ANSON, Loris Kertis 27. of Manila, died Wednesday morning August 15, 1934 at Seventh East, street of heart disease. He was horn at. Robertson, Wyo.. August 9, 1907, son of Mr and Mrs. Mark A. Anson, who now reside at Manila.
Surviving, besides his parents, are a brother, Ruland Anson of Manila, and four sisters. Mrs. Hilda Schofield of Etna. Wyo.; Mrs. Erma Glessner of Chicago and Mrs. Susie Masters and Miss Ava Ann Anson of Manila.

BENNION, Heber Jr., 80 a former Utah secretary of state, legislator and educator, died of a heart attack September 10, 1968 at his ranch in Daggett County. Mr. Bennion served seven terms in the legislature and was speaker of the House in 1939. Mr. Bennion was secretary of state and served as chairman of the State Tax Commission and State Finance Commission. Mr. Bennion started the first high school in Daggett County, in 1937 he was appointed to the Educational Commission to a comprehensive survey of Utah's educational system. During his legislative career, Mr. Bennion servced as an ex-office member of the board of regents, University of Utah, and as a member of the board of trustees of the Utah State Aricultural College. In Daggett county, Mr. Bennion built up an extensive cattle and sheep ranching business. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he filled a mission to Germany, was bishop of the Manila LDS Ward and a member of the Lyman Stake High Council. He was born Jan. 30, 1888, Pleasant Grove, Utah County, he was the son of Heber and Susan Winters Bennion. He was graduated from the Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University) in 1913 with a bachelor of science in agriculture. He later did graduate work at the University of Utah and the University of California at Berekely. He married Vera Weller in 1916 at Salt Lake City. He was a teacher and principal of Lehi High School. Surviving are his widow; three daughters and a son, Virginia Buchanan, Paris France; Dr. Don W. Bennion, Salt lake city; Peggy Papp, New York City; and Barbalyn Curry, Menlo Park, California. Two sisters and a brother also survive him, Sterling Bennion, Delta, Millard County Utah; Helen Barker and Mary Powell, both of Salt Lake City. GROTHE , William A.. ----------Funeral rites were held at the Manila LDS Ward Chapel Thursday, January 30 for William Albert Grothe, 84, who died in Salt Lake City on Sunday, January 26, 1975 He was well known in the Manila area since he moved to that area in 1925. He was born in Berlin Germany January 8, 1891, His parents were August and Louise Kottke Grothe, He married Martha Griguhn April 24, 1917 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. While living in Manila, Mr. Grothe worked as a farmer, radio repairman, painter, carpenter and general repairman, The family lived in the South Valley most of the time but lived on Sheep Creek for about 17 years, He moved from the Manila area in 1959. He is survived by three children, Mrs. Harry (Mary) Jones, Tucson, Arizona; Richard Grothe, Monterey, California; and Mrs, Reed (Lucille) Hanks, Green River, Wyoming; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, His wife, a daughter and a son preceded him in death, Burial was at the Daggett Cemetery.
LAMB, James R.----A survivor of Wyomings early day range wars and contemporary of famous frontiersmen and outlaws, James Roger Lamb 88, died Sunday September 12, 1948 at his home in Manila.
Mr. Lamb played a large part in the settlement of lower Green river and Henrys Fork regions of Wyoming, where he spent the greater part of his life. It was he who first called attention to farming and ranching possibilities of the bottom lands along the two rivers.
His memory reached back in the last days of Jim Bridger, Jim Baker and Jack Robinson, noted frontiersmen, who still lived in Wyoming when he was a boy.
He was one of the last living men who were in their prime during the days when Wyoming was a wild frontier torn by cattlemens warfare and echoing in the six-shooters of the noted bandits of Browns park Butch Cassidy, Lant, tracy, Elza Lay and others.
He was born in Salt Lake City February 14, 1860 a son of Horace and Naomi (Dewhurst) Lamb, an early pioneer and came to as a small boy in the Henrys Fork river with a group of families who first settled in the area.
Surviving are four sons James Arthur Lamb, Dubois, Idaho, George Dewey Lamb, Archie Lamb, Manila, Theodore Lamb, Oakland, California, two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Hafner, Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Mrs. Edith Anson, Manila, 40 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren.

NEIGENFIND, Rudolph formerly a resident of Green River, but who for the past several years has resided with his family at Manila, died at the Wyoming General Hospital in Rock Springs last Sunday night, after an illness of several months, cause of death dropsy. The body was brought to this city, and taken to Manila Wednesday, where it will be laid to rest, Deceased leaves a wife and one son to mourn his departure from this life, who enjoy the sympathy of all in their hour of sorrow. NEILSON, Vernon "Bish", died Friday in a Salt Lake City hospital after a lingering illness. He was born April 21, 1916 to Oley and Ina Siler Neilson. He was an inspiration to some; almost totally blind, he attended for a time the School of the Blind in Salt Lake City. As a young man he lost a leg through a tragic accident, but he was always happy for the things that he had. He is survived by his Stepfather, Ernest Crosby of Manila, sisters Mrs. George (Eva) McWorter of Blackfoot, Idaho, Mrs. Lottie Jones of Priest River, Idaho, Mrs. Lonnie Crosby of Virginia. OLSON Charles Frederick 95, prominent Daggett County Utah church and civic leader and oldest resident of the Manila area died Wednesday July 2, 1958 of a cerebral hemorrhage at the home of a daughter, Mrs William D Field in Evanston He was born in Sweden on April 28 1863, a son of John Nels and Margaretha Nelson Olson He came to the United States in 1890 He married Celinda Jane Twitchell on Aug 4, 1897 in the St George LDS Stake and was twice sustained as a bishop In 1907 - 1909 he served a church mission to the middle western states. Mr Olson was county attorney when Daggett County was formed He also served as justice of the peace and represented the county in the State Legislature in 1921 Survivors include his wife, six sons and daughters, Edgar Olson, Brigham City, Utah, J. Kent Olson, Manila, Charles II Olson and Mrs Mary Almond, Oresham, Ore, Mrs Mabel Field, Evanston, Mrs Margaret Davidson, Ogden, 27 grandchildren and 44 greatgrandchildren burial was held in the Manila Cemetery.
OLSON, Celinda Jane of Gresham. who claimed to have known outlaw Butch Cassidy, was buried Wednesday in Manila, Utah. She died Friday September 30, 1977 at age 103. She was born in Beaver, Utah, December 13, 1873. and had homesteaded in Manila, on the Utah and Wyoming border, where she lived with her husband Charles for more than 60 years. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. Mrs. Olson was a Portland-area resident for 15 years.
According to her nurse of 10 years, Utahna Kerr, Mrs. Olson spoke of a childhood schoolmate named Rob Parker, who later became known as Butch Cassidy.
Survivors include five children, Mable Neilson of Evanston, Wyo.; Margaret Davidson of Manti, Utah; Kent Olson of Manila, and Charles Olson and Mary Almond, both of Gresham; 25 grandchildren; 9? great- grandchildren, and 24 great-great Grandchildren. The Oregonian Wednesday October 5, 1977
PALLENSEN, Niels 60, postmaster of Manila, Utah died Friday in the Wyoming General Hospital at Rock Springs, Wyo., after a short illness. Mr. Pallensen besides being postmaster at Manila was one of the holders of manganese claims now being tested by the United States bureau of mines near the Daggett County seat. Mr. Pallensen was born in Denmark March 15, 1881, Surviving are his widow of Manila eight sons and daughters. Wilbur Pallensen of Hanna Wyo. PETERSON, George Funeral rites honored George Peterson at the Manila LDS Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday. Mr. Peterson succumbed at the Sweetwater County Memorial Hospital in Rock Springs, Wyoming January 2, 1974 following hospitalization December 17. George Peterson was born in Kamas, Utah January 20, 1897. He was a rancher and had resided in the Manila area for nearly 40 years. Manila LDS Ward Chapel. She was the sister of Mrs.Tillie Bascom, Springville. Mrs. Potter was born Jan. 14, 1899 in Manila to Daniel and Matilda Warby Nelson. She married Timothy Potter on Feb. 2, 1914 in Green River, Wyo., and the marriage was solemnized later in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mrs. Potter was active in church auxiliaries. She helped to organize the M&L Homemakers club and had served on the Washam District School Board. RASMUSSEN, George Funeral services were held October 19, 1962 honoring George Rasmussen, 86 year old pioneer of Linwood, Utah who died October 13 following a heart attack at the Sweetwater Memorial hospital in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Mr. Rasmussen for the past 53 years had been in the mercantile business and only last summer closed his Linwood store, due to the Flaming Gorge reservoir site which was to inundate his property. The government had purchased the site to make way for the reservoir. Mr. Rasmussen was born January 19, 1870 in Nebraska, remaining there until 1909 when he moved to Green River Wyoming. In 1925 Mr. Rasmussen was married to Minnie Crouse who survives him. Also surviving are a daughter Mrs. Mary Wadsworth and two grandchildren. October 1962

SCHOFIELD Anna Auntie 84, who died Thursday, Jan, 7 1965 in the Rock Springs hospital after two weeks final illness, was buried Monday of last week in the Manila Cemetery.Auntie was a real pioneer in our country She was born Anna Jensen In Copenhagen, Denmark as near as she could remember in July, 1880, and was but four years old when she came to America. Anna emigrated to Idaho with Mormon emigrants and her parents followed later. She was but. a young woman when she came to Granger, Wyoming almost 70 years ago, where she met and married Charles Philbrick. Charles was a twin and, with his brother, Jim, had been the first white child born in the South Pass City. Charles step-father, Broncho Jim Philbrick, had the distinction of saving the life of the aged Sacajewea when she had been deserted on the plains by her nephew, Basil, Anna later divorced Charles Philbrick. More than fifty years ago, she moved into Henrys Fork Valley and operated her own place. Later she married the late Frank Schofield. For more than 25 years, she has lived in Green River, Wyoming, where her spryness and interest in life, despite advanced age, had won her the admiration of the entire town, She is survived by four sons John Philbrick, Cheyenne, Charles Philbrick, Gillette, Nels Philbrick, Manila; Utah; and Keith (Barney) Schofield of California; three daughters, Ada Nisbett, California, Charlotte Petrc and Pearl Zimmerman, both of Green River, Wyoming, Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. in Green River with graveside services at 1 p,m.in the Manila Cemetery Anna Schofield will rest beside Mona Schofield, mother of her late husband, Frank Schofield. Mrs. Steinaker was born April 9, 1882 in Vernal, a daughter of William and Lucinda Jane Thompson Beeler. She was married to William T. Searle in 1901 in Vernal. He died in 1903. STEINAKER, Joseph Anthony, age 94, former poneer cattle rancher of the Vernal area, died Saturday morning September 9, 1967 at the Sweetwater County Memorial Hospital in Rock Springs where he had been a patient overnight. He was born August 9, 1873 in Denver, Colorado, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Jacob Steinaker. When he was eight, his parents moved from Denver to Vernal and homesteaded the Steinaker Draw area. In 1899 he married Emma Searle of Vernal. She died in 1902. He married Maude Beeler in Vernal in 1904. The Steinaker family left the Vernal area in 1908 and moved to Lonetree, Wyoming where at various times Mr. Steinaker owned and operated three cattle ranches. In 1928 Mr. and Mrs. Steinaker made their home in Manila where he worked with his son Elbert to operate the Manila Trading Co. After the death of his second wife in 1958 he moved to Green River, Wyoming to live with his son Bill. While there he helped Bill deliver mail to the McKinnon and Manila areas. He had been in ill health for the past three years. He is survived by two sons, Elbert of Manila and Bill of Green River four grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Monday in Manila. TWITCHELL, Francis Marion, 56, prominent Daggett county civic leader died Sunday February 26, 1939 at 8:40 AM in a Salt Lake hospital after an appendectomy. He was in the hospital last week when his wife, Alice Twitchell was killed in an automobile accident near Manila. Mr. Twitchell was born August 28, 1882 in Beaver Utah a son of James and Frances Manhart Twitchell and moved to Manila 34 years ago. He had served as deputy sheriff and county commissioner of Daggett county. He was a farmer by occupation. Surviving are four sons Frank, Harold, Clinton and Carl Twitchell of Manila and two daughters, Mrs. Verda Mann of Manila and Mrs. Luella Farrington of Los Angeles. TWITCHELL, William Henry. 79 father of Rollin Twitchell and an uncle of Beatrice Schofield and resident of Lucerne valley for 47 years, died Wenesday August 15, 1945 at the home of his son Roy Twitchell. He was born March 12, 1866 the son of James E. Twitchell and Frances Ellen Manhardt, He married Martha Elizabeth Potter September 14, 1889. Funeral Services were conducted Sunday at 1 P.M. at the Manila L. D. S. Chapel. Burial was in Manila. Six sons and a daughter survive. TWITCHELL, William Wallace----The community was shocked Thursday when they heard of the, death of William Wallace Twitchell who died Monday evening, March 9, 1959, as they were returning from Salt Lake where Mrs Elsie Twitchell had taken him for a medical checkup, he had been sick since Christmas He was born July 13, 1890 the son of William Henry Twitchell and Martha Elizabeth Potter. On December 16, 1914 he married Elsie Nelson in Green River, Wyoming. WALKER, Drell--- Funeral services were held Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. in the Manila ward LDS chapel for Drell Walker, one year old baby of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Walker of Manila who was drowned in a canal near his home Monday afternoon. The child apparently crawled into the stream of water and had succumbed before it could be rescued by its grandfather Frank Adamson. WALL, Peter Gurr--Services for Peter Gurr Wall, one of the oldest residents of Manila, who died at his home Thursday May 22, 1941 after an illness of several months, were conducted Sunday in the Manila Ward with Bishop Clifford A. Christensen in charge. Mr. Wall was born September 23, 1867 in Wallsburg Utah, son of William Madison and Susanna Gurr Wall. His father died when he was two years old, when he with his mother and family moved to Sevier county Utah. In 1889 he married Francis Maud Nebeker of Sigurd. To them was born one daughter Dora Wall. They lived in Sigurd until 1901 when they moved to Manila, where Mr. Wall has been a prominent civic and church worker. He was instrumental in the creation of Daggett county. He was a member of the Sheep Creek Irrigation company for many years and was always interested in the affairs of the school being on the school board for several terms. About 1919 he moved from Daggett county to Green River Wyoming where he served as county commissioner for four years. In 1924 he he removed to Manila. He has served as a bishop of Manila Ward for 12 years. At the time of his death he was a member of the high council of Lyman Stake and a county commissioner of Daggett county. He is survived by his widow, five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, John Wall, of Wallsburg, four sisters Susan and Rose Davis, Temperance Boren of Wallsburg and Ruth Stewart of Gridey, California

Advisory board; member selective service board; Daggett County Soil Conservation District Supervisor 1954 to 1968; Charter member Daggett County Lions Club; member Roman Catholic Church.
